Welcome from the Early Years Leader

On behalf of our Early Years Team we are delighted to welcome you all to be part of or our St. Marie’s family.  At the heart of our EYFS is our mission statement “We are Jesus’ hands and feet” which permeates through the staff and children. Our well established, caring relationships with the children and their families enable us to build strong foundations where children thrive and learn together.

Our ethos supports our children to develop a positive sense of themselves, show empathy for others, build friendships, flourish as unique individuals and develop an appreciation of God’s wonderful world.

Our curriculum is challenging and ambitious. It is carefully planned and rooted in the interests of our children; it is inclusive, flexible and unique to the needs of our diverse, and multicultural community. We aspire for all our children to achieve their full potential.

We pride ourselves on the relationships we have with our families. Our friendly and caring nature encourages a warm welcome to all parents and guardians. Our doors are always open and we are always here to support you and your children.

Holidays

Please inform us in writing of any term-time holidays.  Please note that fees will still be payable for Nursery children.

The Nursery School Day

Nursery Morning children – 8.45am – 11.45am.
Nursery Afternoon children – 11.45am-2.45pm (or 3.05pm including additional fees)
Lunchtime- 11.15am-11.45am

The Reception School Day

Doors open at 8.35am.
8.35am – 3.05pm
Lunchtime – 11.45am -1.00pm

School Uniform

Children are required to wear school uniform and the co-operation of parents is sought in maintaining high standards of dress.
It is of great help if all items of clothing are clearly marked with your child’s name.
The school uniform colours are maroon, grey and white.

  • Maroon jumper/cardigan
  • White short or long sleeved shirt/blouse and school tie
  • Grey shorts or long trousers / Grey pinafore, skirt or trousers White socks, black shoes

Summer:

  • Maroon jumper/cardigan
  • White polo shirt/blouse and school tie Grey shorts or long trousers / Grey pinafore, skirt or trousers
  • Pink check dress (as an alternative) with jumper/cardigan
  • Spare clothes – to be kept on your child’s peg

Sweatshirts, cardigans, ties and book bags are available to purchase from the School Office.

PE Uniform

Nursery

  • Black pumps
  • A named drawstring bag to keep the PE kit in. (No backpacks allowed)

Reception

  • White T-shirt,
  • Black shorts,
  • Black pumps
  • A named drawstring bag to keep the PE kit in. (No backpacks allowed)

Jewellery

  • No earrings are to be worn, this is for the purposes of your child’s health and safety.

Joining Our School

What Your Child Needs for School

  • Waterproof coat with hood- to be worn each day
  • A spare set of clothes in case of accidents (can be left on their peg)
  • School Reading Folder – can be bought from the School Office. (No backpacks allowed)
  • Sunhat and sun cream in warm/hot weather
  • Hats and gloves in cold weather

*Please ensure all items of clothing are labelled with your child’s name

Lunchtime in EYFS

Nursery

  • Children who attend a full day session in our Nursery will need to bring a packed lunch, clearly marked with their name or pay for a school lunch via Arbor.
  • We are a NUT AWARE SCHOOL and have children with severe nut allergies – please do not send in any snacks that contain nuts e.g. Nutella, Snickers, pesto etc.
  • As a healthy school we ask parents to provide healthy snacks in the lunchbox. No chocolate, sweets or fizzy drinks allowed.

 Reception

  • All Reception children are entitled to a free school lunch.
  • If your child is having a school dinner, please ensure you inform us if they have any allergies.  It would be helpful if they could practise using a knife and fork at home.
  • If your child is having a packed lunch, they will need a labelled lunch box.
  • Your children will be supported by Early Years staff throughout dinner times.

Preparing for School

Please encourage your child to become as independent as possible in these last few months before September as this will help the settling in process.

Ways in which to prepare your child:

*Please note, if your child cannot do all of the following, please do not worry, just let us know.

  • Going to the toilet, wiping themselves, flushing the toilet and washing/drying their hands independently
  • Putting coats on and taking them off – fastening zips and buttons
  • Recognising their own name
  • Singing Nursery Rhymes
  • Rhyming words
  • Reading/sharing books and discussing characters/setting/main events
  • Cutting skills
  • Capital Letters only at start of name
  • Encourage your child to walk to into school
  • Please talk about school in a positive way
  • Practise holding pens/pencils/crayons when mark-making
  • Taking turns when playing a game or with toys
  • Being able to use language to communicate their needs
